Rocky Mountain Rundown #5
Week 1 Power Rankings and Over Reactions
Week 1 is in the books. The guys are bought in, the games were intense, and I’m sad. Being out of the league hit me harder than I expected. It doesn’t help that everyone seems to think this is the best change ever. Yes, everyone… even Teddy. Zane’s killing it on socials and Dylan’s screaming like it’s the 2023 championship and I just threw Behn out at home in game 3. I’m fired up that RPWL is thriving and getting the recognition it deserves.
I’ll be doing a weekly recap plus a short subject of the week, and of course updated power rankings. I won’t go overboard in the rankings, but I’ll share a few notes.
Week 1’s topic is Overreactions. I’ll run through reactions from “safe” to absurd. I know some morons will call me an even bigger moron but that’s the goal. My intentions are to fire up the league and stir debate.
Let’s get into the rankings.

While this article is the Overreaction article, I refuse to overreact to my pre season rankings after 1 slate of games. Guys are going to need some time to adjust and I still need to see how things play out.
A few notes.
-
Jays are still the best team on paper. They got smacked around but I do think Cam can figure things out.
-
Dylan is a legit 2 way threat but they beat my pre season #10 team so I can't move them up more than a spot
-
White Sox lost a close game to a very good team. I'm not selling my stock.
-
The Teddy-Frankie combo can win games. Curious to see if their depth guys can push them into elite territory.
-
Phillies were tough for me because I didn't see the Mutz show at all in the pre-season. While I admit I started low on him, they still only beat a middle of the road team on 1 swing.
-
Angels are just in a tough spot of the rankings where teams below them showed some serious firepower. I don't expect them to stay this low.
-
Sean should've retired with me.
Now for the real reason we are here. Lets react and Overreact to a phenomenal first week. I will have 7 takes getting progressively hotter.
1- Dylan is a legit contender for every major award and will double his career high in home runs. (5 in 2024)
We all expected Dyl to step into the elite tier with the format change but 2 homeruns and 8 k’s in 3 innings is a better start then even he could've dreamt of.
2- Ben Mutz will put together the best rookie season in league history.
With offense up across the board this year, it’s statistically plausible. It's also about Mutz’s appetite to be great which outweighs his appetite for drunk Wawa dogs.
3- Someone in the league will end the season batting .500.
In the betting piece I asked if anyone would hit .400. Right now 11 people are at .500 or higher, that’s 25% of the league, for the 90% of you who needed the math spelled out.
4- Cam simply can’t be an effective pitcher in this format.
While slightly more of an overreaction I’ll admit I'm a bit concerned. 8 walks is tied for the league lead in walks on the mound. Tied you say? Not that bad. Well 2nd place has 5 and Noah is tied with him and threw 5 innings… Cam threw 1.1.
5- Connor Warwick will be the best player on a championship contending team.
I will say I had him ranked 1 spot above Lib in my Magic conch player rankings but I wasn't expecting a 2 home run performance in the opener. Lib added a homerun and outpitched his teammate on the way to win but this will be fun to follow.
6- Pat Farrell will have the lowest batting average in back to back seasons. (He’d be the first in league history with that distinct honor)
Dylan mentioned it's important for Pat to start hot to stay hot. Let's hope this bad start doesn't mean another season of woes for my championship teammate.
7- Sean is washed up and his only elite wiffleball this year will be played outside RPWL.
Did Sean run into the wrong team on the wrong night, or does this format hurt him? Six hits and six earned in three innings is very unlike the savvy vet.
I love the chaos this format brings and im excited to see what teams and players step up and which guys disappoint… (Cam, Sean, Noah, Tommy, AK, Vinny, Riley)
Here's to an even better week 2 with more highlights, more drama and hopefully less of the commish being so full of himself.
