2017 Recap: The Big Ballers
This year was a rollercoaster year for the A’s as they started the season a dismal 0-3, losing all 3 games by no more than two runs, due to their inability to get hits. However, after Jimmy Davis jokingly coined the 0-3 A’s the “Big Ballers” their fortune changed greatly. The A’s then went on to put together a 9 game win streak, including wins against Colin Pollag, Sean Bingnear, and two against 2016 ROY Dennis Donegan, while only allowing 2 runs over that span. After improving to 8-3 the A’s had a double header against the Royals, and a game against the Yankees, standing in their way of the first round bye. Taking game one by a 1-0 score, the A’s improved to 9-3; however, late inning heroics stopped the A’s short of 10 in a row, as the Royals rallied from down 6-1 to win the game, making the A’s 9-4. The A’s went on to no-hit the Yankees 3-0 to finish up at 10-4, giving them 2nd place in the AL. In round one of the playoffs the A’s got their rematch against the Royals, and this time came out victorious, winning game one of the series 1-0 (hitoff), and game two 5-1 thanks to a Jimmy Davis Grand Slam. Their strong run was cut short of a championship thanks to a dominating performance by Sean Bingnear in the ALCS, who swept the A’s in two games (1-0 and 3-0 both via HRs) to finish their season. The A's ended the season with an overall record of 12-6 (12-3 in the BBB era) and posted the lowest team ERA in history, at 0.96, allowing only 12 ER in 61.5 innings this season (NINE OF WHICH CAME IN ONE GAME). Minus their blunder against the Royals, the A's had given up only 3 ER in 13 games, which lead to their success. Captain Dylan Harshaw will be at a loss next year without Nachbar, but hopes to get a solid second starter early in the draft and continue the A’s recent success the past two years.

Jimmy Davis surprised us all this year with the way he played in his rookie season. Being drafted third in the third round to the A's meant he wasn't supposed to be anything special, but Jimmy Proved the haters wrong as he went on to claim the 4th man of the year award, which is given to the best third round pick, as he tallied 12 RBIs in the regular season, directly aiding in to of the A's wins, not to mention his game winning grand slam in game two of the ALDS. Jimmy was a major part in the A's success in 2017 and will be greatly missed in 2018.

Captain Dylan Harshaw goes way deep of Rockies' captain Riley Brown to extend the A's lead to 6-0... The A's went on to win the game 6-1, bringing them to 2-3 for the 2nd win of the 9 game streak
Big Baller Jimmy Davis hits a deep single off of the hardest throwing pitcher in the league, Tommy Loftus, for his first hit of the season. The A's went on to beat the Orioles 4-0 to advance to .500 and secure their 3rd win in the 9 win streak
Dynamic Duo?
Why were the A's so successful this year? It's simple. Wiffleball is a game run by pitchers and thats exactly what the A's had. With Cy Young Tyler Nachbar as their starter, and the well experienced Dylan Harshaw providing the needed relief, the A's had the best one-two combo in the league, posting a league low in team ERA, an astonishing 0.96. They let up 15 runs in 14 games, 3 of which were unearned. That's less than 1 ER per game, which puts even the worst of hitting teams in a position to win games. Not to mention that 9 of the 15 runs came in one game, meaning over the other 13 games of the season, the A's only let up 6 runs. That's less than half a run a game. Although the dynamic duo of Harshaw and Nachbar made the A's a threat, their lackluster hitting performance in playoffs eventually lead to their demise. Based off his success the past two years, Harshaw will again be looking for a pitcher in the first round, as pitching win games. Although the league has become much tougher, adding captains Nachbar and Tommy, the A's organization has confidence that they will remain successful.
Tyler Nachbar had a record year on the mound and he was a major part in the A's success. For the first four games of the season, captain Dylan Harshaw started for the A's, gaining a 1-3 record, much due to lack of run support; however, in their 5th game of the year, Harshaw gave Tnach the start against the Rockies and the rest was history. From this start on, Nachbar started the season on a 30 inning scoreless streak, and finished with a 0.56 ERA over 45 innings. Nachbar posted a 9-1 record with 72 strikeouts compared to only 35 walks, giving him a 2.06 K/BB ratio; 2nd best in the league. While throwing 45 innings and only allowing 5 runs,Tyler proved to be one of- if not the most dominant pitcher in the Ridley Park Wiffleball League this year, and will be a greatly missed member of the Athletics organization. The A's wish Tnach the best of luck in his first year as a captain in 2018, and hope to have some extremely competitive matchups next year
