2018 Expectations: New Cy Young in Town?

During the 2017 season, no one knew what to expect out of Tloft. Dennis went with him 6th overall and no one thought much of it; he had batted decently in just 4 games of the 2016 season, but made it clear that he would not be pitching.... So we thought. On opening day Tommy came in for relief in the Orioles dominant 11-3 win over the Yankees, and his pitching was just icing on the cake at that point. Loftus came in and honestly threw faster than anyone I had ever seen pitch. It was unbelievable, and it heavily increased the Orioles championship odds. However, luckily for the rest of the league, Tommy limited his innings heavily during the season, which lead to the Orioles mediocre 6-8 record heading into playoffs. Tommy ended the season with a record breaking 0.46 ERA, a 4-0 record, and 57 strikeouts over 32.5 innings. These record breaking numbers would've been a shoe in for Cy Young, if Colin Pollag hadn't thrown almost twice as many innings as Loftus. As for the 2018 season, with the loss of the Rockies and the Brewers, every team will have to play 100% to fight for a playoff spot, so we can all expect Tommy's innings to increase, which (referring to the title!!) could possibly bring a new Cy Young to our national league? Cpog has held the award for both years but will really be put to the test next year, as Tommy looks to captain his RPWL Dodgers to a title. We are excited to see what next year has in store for the Dodgers and new captain Tommy Loftus.

In addition to Tommy's dominance in the RPWL, he may have had an even more dominant outing at nationals this year with RPWL Longballs. After seeing one inning of work, all Longballs present on opening day immediately looked to have Tommy take on the 7th spot for their at regionals. Upon realizing Tommy was too young for the regional tournament the the team came to one conclusion: We better qualify to give this kid a shot to pitch in Michigan. Well, that's what we did, and that's DEFINITELY what he did. Over the weekend at nationals, Tommy pitched 15 innings while only allowing 1 run (should've been 0), racking up 44 out of a possible 45 strikeouts, and even a no-hitter against a very competitive Leroy lineup, all while only walking 9 batters. His 3-0 record helped the Longballs finish 5th in the nation and proved that this team is a threat. Next year he'll look to be back at it again, helping us make a deeper run in Michigan.

2. Dane McGrath- (Co)Captain

Although Tommy Loftus is mainly known for his dominant pitching, Loftus also won his first homerun derby in 2017, dethroning Colin Pollag. Going into the derby, everyone knew Loftus could hit lobs, but not like this. Loftus cruised through the first couple rounds only to meet Vinny Albanese in the finals, who he went on to defeat to take home the homerun derby crown.

A Record Breaking Year
We all get that Tommy's pitching was good this year... but just how good? To put it in perspective, Tommy broke two pitching records in his first season, both previously held/shared by the pitching great Colin Pollag. Tommy set the record for strikeouts in a game (10) which he has done twice. The rest of the league has 0 10K games. In addition to K's/game, Loftus now holds the record for lowest season ERA, which rounded out at 0.46, beating the previous record held by Colin Pollag (.73). After just one year Loftus had made his mark on the record books.. will there be more records to come in 2018?
